The Holmes Museum

Sometimes, you can't always hit the jackpot. I usually have pretty good luck in life. It must be the Taoist influence. I tend to just flow with things and watch as they work themselves out; usually in a good way. With ghosts, demons, and other things that go bump in the night, I get the same treatment. I don't need to find them. They find me.

But sometimes, things don't always work according to plan. And what might seem like a great opportunity one minute, ends up as overblown hype the next. The Holmes Museum was just such a case.

The Holmes Museum is well documented in a few published books on haunted buildings, so when the opportunity came to investigate it in detail, I couldn't turn down the invite.

The anticipation level was high. I expected at least something to happen - something to make the hour and a half drive worth it. I even broke out the high tech equipment for this one; more than the standard flashlight.

Unfortunately the disappointment ended up higher than the anticipation as I spent five hours walking around the building (which is actually a pretty nice museum to be honest, so it wasn't a complete waste) doing nothing much more than cracking jokes at the colonial portraits on the walls. Though to be honest, there was a life size doll of a little girl they had standing on the staircase that was a little freaky. Other than that, uneventful doesn't even begin to describe that night.

You often take the good with the bad in anything you do in life. And I've learned that despite my luck with supernatural occurrences and other crazy things, I'll occasionally make a jackass out of myself by wandering around in the middle of night for nothing. But occasionally that's good. It helps keep you honest.
